Lake Tahoe is one of the best places when it comes to planning a destination wedding. Whether you’ve wanted to exchange vows on a quiet beach or at the peak of a mountain, we have just the place for you. And while you are totally able to come here, have a wedding, and leave, I always recommend that my clients spend some time exploring the area and making the most out of their time. As a Lake Tahoe wedding photographer, I adore working with my clients to help them figure out how to have an unforgettable wedding celebration. Here are my favorite things to do in Lake Tahoe!

Plan An Unforgettable Wedding Adventure With These Things To Do In Lake Tahoe

Lodging

The very first thing you need to figure out is lodging. As you might imagine, Lake Tahoe has a ton of options, no matter your preferences. Here are some of my top recommendations!

  • Edgewood Tahoe in Stateline, Nevade has luxury villas with up to 5 bedrooms. Throughout your stay, you can dine at their exquisite restaurants, golf on their meticulously kept courses, or unwind at their spa.
  • The Hyatt Regency in Incline Village, Nevada, gives you a resort with cottages, rooms, and suites. Plus, the hotel is right next to the lake.
  • The Ritz Carlton in Truckee, California, is mountainside and gives you ski-in ski-out access.
  • Black Bear Lodge in South Lake Tahoe, California, gives you rustic, individual cabins, lodges, and suites.
  • Hotel Becket in South Lake Tahoe is a boutique-style hotel that is going to go out of its way to make sure you have everything you need throughout your time!
  • The Coachman Hotel in South Lake Tahoe, California is an open-air, modern hotel that puts you right between the lake and the mountains.

Popular Hikes

One of the best ways to get out and experience the best of local nature is by planning a hike across the area. The region has trails across every range of difficulty, and you can mix it up as much as you’d like. Here are a few that I adore!

  • Eagle Lake Trail is located in South Tahoe, California. This is an out-and-back trail that will take you across 1.8 miles and up 430 feet. This one will take you alongside the lake and past a waterfall.
  • Rubicon Trail is also located in South Tahoe. This one is for the people who like to go the distance. This out-and-back comes out to 16.4 miles. There are some pretty exquisite views along the way. Just be prepared because it tends to be pretty popular!
  • The Cascade Falls trail in South Lake Tahoe is a 1.3 out-and-back with an elevation gain of 209 feet. The trail can get pretty rocky at times, but at the end, you can cool off in the streams.
  • Skyline Trail in South Lake Tahoe is accessible by a drive to Heavenly Ski Resort. It is a two-mile-long round trip on the top of the mountain amidst the vast forest.

Best Beaches

If you would prefer to hang out by the beach, Lake Tahoe has some of the best around! These are the ones I love the most.

Sand Harbor is a state park in Incline Village, Nevada. At this location, you can enjoy crystal clear water and sandy shore. They welcome kayaking, scuba diving, and hiking. In the summer, you can check out their Shakespeare fest! Emerald Bay State Park is located near South Lake Tahoe in California. Beyond the water, this is where you are going to find the historic Vikingsholm Castle, which is always worth a visit! Kiva Shoreland is near South Lake Tahoe in the midst of National Forest Land. Bonus: this one doesn’t get a lot of crowds, so you can hang out without all the traffic. Tahoe City Commons Beach is in Tahoe City, California. It has a playground for younger visitors, and they often host free concerts.

Boat Outings

One of the best ways to explore this area is by going to the lake itself. With these boat outings, you will have the perfect way to choose your own adventure. For wakeboarding, check out Tahoe Wakesurf. You will be paired with a captain who will take you out on the lake with up to five other people. If you would prefer to have a more relaxing experience, you can try Tahoe Sailing Charters. Enjoy a fabulous meal while taking in the sites as you sail around the lake. Elevation Charters offers a little bit of everything. If you want to relax, you can sit aboard a charter and cruise around. They also give you the chance to surf or tube around the lake.

Whitewater Rafting

If you would prefer to live your life on the edge, you can try out some whitewater rafting. There are several companies that will let you customize your experience! Tahoe Whitewater Tours has shorter trips as well as extended trips. They have options for all levels and even have kid-friendly choices! Truckee River Rafting is a family-owned center that offers mild experiences. This one is perfect for adventurers of all ages! Don’t quite know what you want? I always recommend that my clients try out Tributary Whitewater Tours. This site is going to hook you up with companies in your area and help you figure out exactly what you need from your company.

Amazing Restaurant To Try

One of the biggest questions is what you will eat while you’re here. Luckily for you, we have tons of fabulous places! Here are the ones you need to try!

  • Soule Domain is a North Lake Tahoe restaurant that has been voted the best fine dining experience. This rustic cabin regularly serves up food that is anything but simple.
  • The Getaway Cafe in Meyers, California, is your brunch and breakfast place to start off your day (or help you get rid of the headache from the night before!).
  • Base Camp Pizza Co. is one of the best pizza places in South Lake Tahoe, and you’ll get some daily live music.
  • Sage Leaf Tahoe is in Incline Village, Nevada. You can find fusion cruising including duck fat fries, burgers, and house made pasta.
  • Cold Water Brewery has some of the best beers around! On the side, you can find burgers, tacos, and more!

SHALL WE MEET?

HI FRIENDS

I’m Kirsten—a wedding photographer here to guide you through this wildly exciting time…and toward the best lighting.

Ever since my days in the highschool darkroom, I’ve been enamored with the power images have to tell a compelling story. I went on to study photography and fashion at Savannah College of Art & Design and worked as an editor for a studio before founding Kirsten Marie Photography in 2012. Every day since, and I’ve fallen deeper in love with the art of wedding photography—there’s just nothing quite as fascinating and fulfilling as documenting the tenderness weddings bring out in people.

As someone who’s fairly spotlight-shy, I know how awkward being photographed can feel—which is why I work to bring an atmosphere of ease (and a wicked sharp sense of humor) to our time together. I pour my whole heart into hyping you up, getting you the material you deserve, and making sure you feel comfortable and cared for.

Beyond the lens, I’m a mom to two feisty girls. Translation: there’s no group I can’t wrangle, no mountain I can’t summit, and no trail I can’t traverse. While you’re soaking in sunsets and sipping champagne—you can find me crawling through bushes and traipsing through snowpack to get the best angle…and loving every single second of it.
